It's Happening Now: Content and Artificial Intelligence

May 31, 2019

What if all of the content that we are creating right now is going to provide machine intelligence with knowledge of what humans are like? What if all of this data is meant to be interpreted as memories, or past experiences? Artificial Intelligence is still in the early days of adaptation, but it’s advancing rapidly - this is the perfect time to get involved.

AI is happening now: machine learning technology is being applied in many different ways. Currently, it supports things like security systems and fraud detection, automated assistants and apps, and even surgical procedures. As we use Facebook, Spotify, Netflix or Amazon, Artificial Intelligence takes note of our personal information and recommends to us other relevant content. We interact with artificial intelligence dozens of times a day and don’t even realize it!

But what is intelligence? How does the brain actually work? We don’t fully understand, yet we are building it based off of what we do know.

The development of the human brain is heavily influenced by early experiences. These experiences are then generalized and serve as the foundation for future learning, behavior, and health. If this information (or data) isn't favorable, then the information processor that receives it as input is going to be misled and unprepared to live in the world. We need to collectively ensure that intelligences of our creation are resilient and able to overcome adversity.

In a child’s developing brain, neural connections are built and strengthened, which support the future ability to communicate and socialize. One of the most crucial elements of a healthy childhood is a positive reciprocal relationship with an offspring and its caretaker.

The development of a brain is a story that is actively unfolding. Alongside physical changes that are occurring is a sentient being who is actively experiencing the world. This sentient being is learning, remembering, and then learning some more. Artificial Intelligence is trained by humans, but eventually it is not going to rely on human interaction to complete tasks because Artificial Intelligence is not restricted to human knowledge.

One thing that makes the human brain unique (besides its affinity for creative solutions) is its executive functioning and self-regulation skills. These skills enable us to plan, focus our attention, remember instructions and juggle multiple tasks. Unlike machines, we are motivated and purposeful beings, so these skills are important and necessary to attaining our goals and planning for the future.

Artificial neural networks mimic the human brain; each neuron has a function and works to complete a task. Biological neurons are fast but limited, while modern transistors are way faster - they transfer signals at the speed of light! An artificial brain, using an artificial neural network, learns similar to how a baby learns. However, the baby’s brain develops relative to the organism’s genetic composition, environment, and its interactions with others. Given such complex data to learn from, machine intelligence adapts its own view.

The rapidly growing popularity of big data means that marketers need to embrace sophisticated approaches to process and perform in-depth analyses of customer data. Artificial Intelligence can help inform you of the way that you interact with customers by gathering highly personalized demographic data. This personalized approach to marketing puts the customer at the center of the message, acknowledging a deep connection that exists between the two. Customizing the individual’s experience makes for meaningful interactions that positively impact business performance.

The automation that content marketers are using today is primarily manual. These platforms do not provide insights into data, recommend actions to take or predict outcomes. The partnership of content marketing and artificial intelligence is going to transform jobs and create immense opportunities. Artificial Intelligence makes it easier to push relevant content to the right audiences by accurately predicting relevancy. It takes into account your personal interests, income, device used, and what day/time preference you have for using the internet. All of this information is easily accessible to AI.

Software can now accurately identify, measure, and analyze human behavior, as well as the physical aspects of the body’s structure and form. This will make for a more natural interaction between humans and machines by utilizing touch, image, speech and body language recognition. Artificial Intelligence in conjunction with biometrics enables software to “read” the emotions on a human face, made possible by using advanced image and audio data processing. AI has learned to recognizing patterns in micro-expressions, subtle body language cues and vocal intonation that “betrays a person’s feelings”. Using statistical methods, human meaning and intention can be understood.

Content intelligence gives you the full context, including both the individual piece of content as well as the body of content it sits within. This information is necessary in order to make better decisions about something that pertains to the content in question. This is a technology that helps content understand itself - what it’s about, how it speaks, how effective it is at accomplishing certain goals, or what emotions it calls to mind.

giphy (2)-15Content intelligence technology integrates machine learning, natural language processing, artificial intelligence and big data, allowing you to understand everything there is to know about a piece of content. If you can understand it in its context, you can use that knowledge to guide the decision making for that piece of content.

In other words, the creation of artificial intelligence is something that is happening now. Its ability to recognize objects, emotions and faces is becoming more advanced, and more accurate. Human sensation is accounted for in the form of computer vision and speech/language recognition and generation. We are even implanting electrodes into rat brain, trying to figure out how to create a brain implant that acts as an interface between humans and computers. Developing Artificial Intelligence is going to require lots of preparation, our smartest minds, and our best strategies.

To sum it up, I’ll leave you with the rhythmic beating of a quantum computer:
